Mr. Chacko P. Verghese
Mr. Verghese is the Founder and President/CEO of Global Market Resources, Inc.
Founded in 1995, GMRI is a North Carolina corporation based in Research Triangle Park, and provides international trade consulting services. GMRI’s primary focus is on identifying, evaluating and facilitating international joint ventures. GMRI offers assistance in import, export and technology transfers between the United States and India, including in the ASEAN and Middle East nations. GMRI has been instrumental in developing several project consortia consisting of Indian and foreign multinational partners.
Mr. Verghese has successfully represented corporations in the US and India in several industries, including biotechnology, computer software and hardware, infrastructure development, and waste management. He has considerable relationships in these industries and his career has been marked by numerous project successes.
Mr. Verghese is a graduate (MS) of Roosevelt/Northwest University in Illinois and is a Pharmacologist by training. Prior to founding GMRI in 1995, Mr. Verghese worked for Burroughs Wellcome / Glaxo Wellcome for over 18 years and was involved in the drug discovery process, including at the Duke medical Center, and the Ford Foundation. Mr. Verghese has over 23 publications and abstracts in major medical journals and is listed in the "Who’s Who in Frontiers of Science and Technology" (1985).
Mr. Verghese was also Managing Director of Biotechnology International, LLC, which hosted a high-level public-private sector joint conference for State of North Carolina and the State of Andhra Pradesh, pursuant to which bilateral agreements were inked between Biotechnology International, State of Andhra Pradesh, and the Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park in Hyderabad.
An active proponent of public-private partnerships, Mr. Verghese was a member of the US Presidential delegation which accompanied President Bill Clinton to India in 2000 and signed three contracts in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad for promoting Medical Waste Management in India. He was invited in 2002 by the U.S. Government and Kenan Institute of UNC-Chapel Hill to speak at the Environmental Trade and Technology Initiatives held in Thailand and Vietnam to promote the social infrastructure in both countries on Medical Waste management for the developing countries.
Mr Verghese also served as a board member for the North Carolina World Trade Center, and serves as North Carolina’s Ambassador to USINPAC. He has also served as a board member in the NC Governor’s advisory Board on “North Carolina in the World” and also the Chair of Charter Member of TiE Carolinas.
